Aussie Instant Freeze Gel

Found at drugstores.
Aussie Awesome Volume, Aussie Instant Freeze, Herbal Essences Set Me Up, and Pantene Smooth Defining Hair Gel are all virtually the same gel.  See my blog post on my other blog for more info.

  1. I really want to like this gel because it is glycerin free (and inexpensive!) but sadly it makes my hair frizz quite a bit. I blame the polyquat 4, perhaps. But the smell is great at least.

  2. Fia - fine/medium, ii/iii, medium porosity and elasticy, 2a waves.

I (and my hair!) really like this gel. It has excellent hold and SOTC very well. The scent is a bit strong, but it doesnt linger. I usually mix it 80/20 with BRHG for a little bit of stronger hold. I get some of my best hair with this!

  3. 2C with 2 A&B, normal-fine, normal-thin, porous

    Hold Factor: 1 maybe 2
This was a huge fail for me. I really wanted to like it, I need something humectant free for low and high dews. This just isn't it. It left me stringy and limp and weighed down. Which is odd, because for a wavy with hair on the fine side of normal thickness I don't get weighed down easily!

I don't consider this to be a miracle or anything, but it's usable. When I apply it to wet hair, it leaves me a soggy, limp mess. I can smaster it in when my hair is almost dry but only with very wet hands, and I have to be careful not to overapply. I like this gel though because SOTC is easy, and if applied right, it leaves me with frizz-free, shiny, touchably soft waves that last all day despite my inability to stop touching them.

  5. This gel is okay. I use it because it's inexpensive and glycerin and protein free. I mix it with a little Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee for maximum hold. It seems to be the best gel I've found so far.

  6. This gel does great things to my hair: great hold, clumps, curl, and just general hair awesomeness. Unfortunately, the polyquaternium-4 causes awful build-up that can only be washed out with a sulphate shampoo. Bummer.

  7. This is my low dew, winter season, holy grail gel. Holds well, clumps well. Can create build up though, so be sure to low poo or sulfate poo every so often.

  8. I tried this gel because its glycerin free. I have to use a very light application of this to avoid unscrunchable noodle head. Plus, if I use too much of this, I get weird roots that will look like I parted my hair straight down the back. I have no clue as to why this happens. Won't be repurchasing this one once it's gone.

  9. I'd put the hold of this gel at a 4. I mix equal parts of AIF and FSG and add in some BRHG because I like a whole lot of hold. I use AIF in the spring because it is glycerin free for the low dew points and doesn't have aloe. I have to be careful how much aloe I use in the spring when the dew points are close to the actual temperature, even though the dew points are still classified as low. There is nothing special about this gel, but it is cheap and works for my needs.
