Ecostyler Krystal is a magic clump maker for me. It magically makes clumps when I scrunch it to soaking wet hair (excess water squeezed out with hands). It contains glycerin and wheat protein. It is one of my HG products in the summer (normal dews). I don't use it in high or low dews because it contains glycerin. When you add ecostyler to your hair, it makes your hair feel weird/bad. It feels like it will damage/dry your hair, but it doesn't. I give this gel a 3 (out of 5) for hold. (see the FAQ for the hold scale) I usually mix ecostyler with flax seed gel and top with Biosilk Rock Hard Gelle.
Magic clump maker indeed! This gel is like clumps in a container. Prior to trying this gel, I gravitated toward thinner, runny gels. Make no mistake, there is nothing thin or runny about this gel. It is thick and goopy. I scrunch this into soaking wet hair and like magic...clumps! The container for this gel rates it as a 10 Max Hold, but I have found this gel to be a medium hold at best. I top it with a hard hold gel (Biotera) for extra hold. This product has protein, which my hair likes. And you can't beat the price! It's under $5 at Sally's for a 32 oz tub. I have had my current tub for 2 months and use a fair amount almost daily and haven't even made a dent in the container. I think this tub will last me a year! My only complaint about this gel is that while it is wonderful on day 1 hair, it gives me dry 2nd day hair. I have remedied this by using Cj Curls in a Bottle (CJ CiaB) under my Eco Styler on day 1. I will be re-puraching this gel for sure...if I ever run out!
My hair is 2C with bits of 2A and B mixed in, normal-fine, normal/thin, porous
Hold factor for me: 3 One of my HG's! It's very thick and grabby, which I love. It pulls triple duty for me, working as a curl enhancer, clump maker, and pretty good hold. I can definitely get away with just using this as my only styler. Plus, it's pretty cheap!
I really wanted to love this gel. I found a huge tub at Sally's for less that $5. Through using this, though, I realized that my hair is very sensitive to protein in everyday styling products and conditioners. I do have to say that it created awesome clumps, despite the halo frizz it created.
My 2c medium-coarse hair didn't like this. The first time I used it, I had ok hair – a lot of frizz but good clumps. After that I only got frizz and stringy hair. This was definetly not for me. I am a bit protein sensitive though.
I have 2b,fine, thin, porous hair.

I wanted to add you can find this at Sally's or CVS in the ethnic hair care section. CVS has smaller containers if the big tub scares you.

ReplyDeleteI love this gel. It helps develop large clumps and helps enhance my curls. I haven't tried enough products to call this an HG, but I have high hopes.
